It's been a while since FPMake established, and in svn / source version,
there are fpmake.pp along with Makefile in almost every package (rtl, fcl,
etc.). Is this system ready to be used like I only need to compile one top
level fpmake then it will compile the others to build/install FPC?
It's actively being tested and debugged at the moment.
Afaik only the parts in packages/ ?
Yes. We decided to start there since these are
a) less sensitive
b) more prone to change.
E.g. the toplevel RTL fpmake hasn't been touched since 2008, and there is no
toplevel or compiler/ fpmake.
We are aware of this.
There were some issues with cross-compilation, and older (pre windows-XP)
systems.
These are being fixed. As soon as the core team is satisfied with this, the
distribution system will progressively be switched to fpmake.
For me the important part is getting rid of make and coreutils, since the
windows versions are no longer maintained.
The same reason for us to do so, but these things take time.
But I think there are other, newer versions of these tools.
Michael.
