OK, so it is not picking up enough of the finger, as if it is not 
sensitive enough. My own AES2501 behaves very differently and gives 
images that look a lot different.

At the moment I believe the AES2501 code is tuned for a specific laptop 
and has no automatic calibration. I think the solution here will be to 
add this calibration, once we have figured out how.

Would you mind filing a bug report for this? I have created a bug 
tracker at http://www.reactivated.net/fprint/bugs/

Yours will be the first bug report, so please let me know if there are 
any issues :)

Please also mention on the bug if you've had more success getting better 
images from other open source AES2501 drivers...?
