It seems the current desktop environments are not quite ready to move away from the "enter username then password" model. pam_fprint is just a proof of concept and not expected to fit into all environments flawlessly. As for comparing against all enrolled fingers, libfprint currently cannot do this. libfprint implements verification but not identification.
