Hello. I tried to create an account on the fprint main page, but only saw a
login...no way to create an account. Anyway, below is some info sent to me by
a UPEK rep concerning the embedded fingerprint reader on my MSI-1221 laptop.
Bottom line is that the BSAPI may be ready by May for testing on Linux. Well,
I'll keep in touch with them.

If you like, I'll send the UPEK point of contact info to you.

Sincerely,
Gene

Private use / Sonly on LINUX

Dear Robert!

Sorry, but I gave you wrong information. Currently there is only alpha
version, not the beta as I mentioned in previous email.

Alpha version is internal-only and I cannot provide you with download
link right now.

Please try to contact me at beginning of April...

Best Regards,

UPEK

Dear Gene!

As per VID and PID you stated in your hardware specification
(147e:2016), your fingerprint reader is only USB scanner with no
coprocessor, while TFM/ESS modules are using biometric coprocessor -
companion chip.

On TFM/ESS matching and all other things are done inside device. Our
BioAPI BSP for Linux supports only the coprocessor based modules, as for
Sonly (Sensor-Only) modules, you need also the matching algorithm as a
part of the library.

Currently, the only possibility to control Sonly devices on Linux is our
brand new BSAPI. It is not based on BioAPI framework, so you do not have
to install BioAPI.

Please note following limitations:
- It is a beta version
- Only 32bit library is available
- Sonly without EEPROM are not supported
- It was tested only on Mandriva (but it should work fine on Ubuntu, as
the kernel is same)

Please let me know if you are interested in getting this beta version of
SDK and what are your plans...

Full version of BSAPI for Linux, which will also support other UPEK
devices, is scheduled on 05/2008.

Best Regards,

UPEK

>From your Linux download page, you reference success with using the
embedded UPEK fingerprint scanner on Ubuntu Linux. In particular, I
would
like to get your fingerprint reader working on the next version of
Ubuntu
to be released in April (Hardy Heron 8.04). Do you have any info
regarding who had previous success with the reader on Ubuntu? Were .deb

packages created...32-bit or 64-bit? Please assist the Linux community
if
possible. Thanks.
