I received some Vista sniff logs from a contributor, which I've published here: http://projects.reactivated.net/fprint/snifflogs/vfs101_edited.txt
The image format is not-quite-grayscale but is not far off. Just rendering the data blobs revealed some fingerprint-like structures. So I removed the image data from the logs to protect the privacy of the user. The protocol looks overall quite simple, but some bits inbetween the image data transfers need to be looked at carefully. Next step is for me to get one of these devices, and it looks like I can just buy a Silex S1 scanner using the project funds (this includes the same sensor). I have one other device in my reverse engineering queue which I will work on before ordering the Silex device though. In the meantime, I'm curious as to which other laptops (HP and Acer, I think) include the VFS101 with USB ID 138a:0001? (Don't be fooled by the DigitalPersona Windows software, it's not a DP device) The one we know of so far is the HP Pavilion dv7.
