CALL FOR ARTWORKS FOR FRIENDS OF SAXONVILLE FUNDRAISER
For this year's Discover Saxonville event on May 31st, the Friends of Saxonville presents Art at the Athenaeum, featuring an exhibit and auction of work by regional artists. Artists from area studios, museum schools and art associations are invited to submit original works to be auctioned off during the evening's festivities. Please spread the word. There are three parts to the event: 1) A live auction juried by Danforth Museum Director Ron Cruzan and Artana Gallery Director Heather Roy, and conducted by a professional auctioneer. 2) A silent auction called "Paint the Town" featuring works focusing on Framingham-whatever enthralls the artist about the town. 3) An afternoon exhibit featuring works of Framingham sites by Framingham students on the Athenaeum Hall lawn accompanied by an ice cream social. Details for artists: $ 5 entry fee per item, bids open at 1/3 retail value, and artists will receive 40% of the selling price. Accepted mediums: oils, acrylics, pastels, watercolor, encaustics, monoprints, and prints. Originals only. Representational art preferred. Maximum dimensions: 50"x 60", silent auction: 20'x 24". Two Juror's Choice awards, plus 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards will be given and drawn from compbined live and silent accepted works. The painters whose works win awards will be notified by phone by Wednesday, May 21st. Interested artists should send three photographs or slides for each entry and category, stating live or silent auction. Mail to Artana, Attn: Friends of Saxonville, Framingham, MA 01701. Include resume, artist statement, and fair market value for each titled entry, and a SASE for return of materials. Deadline is April 25th. Acceptance letters will be mailed by May 6th. Artists who receive awards will receive two complimentary $ 25 tickets to the event. The festive event will showcase the exceptional entries in an art opening exhibition format with live music, a wine bar, and complimentary appetizers and desserts catered by Saxonville-based chef Jim Pelham. Watch for ads, signs, and banners in the coming weeks, and visit www.saxonville.org for additional details. Sponsors and volunteers for the event are welcome.
