Steve, Thank you for the cautionary note about telemarketing. I have found by questioning these folks that often they are not even from our state, and they can't or won't say how much actually comes back to the local departments. I encourage everyone to ask for a phone number where you can call them back, get the name of the organization doing the calling, and then check with the local department (fire, police, etc - whichever one is allegedly benefiting from the telemarketing) to see if, in fact, this is a valid fundraising agreement or a scam! Report anything untoward to the local police.
