Town Manager to host TV show By Rob Haneisen / News Staff Writer Wednesday, July 16, 2003 FRAMINGHAM - Town Manager George King has put himself in the hot seat. This week, King began taping segments for his own cable television show, "Framingham Today," which will air Tuesday at 7 p.m. on RCN channel 16 and Comcast channel 9. The bimonthly, 30-minute show will have three distinct segments. The first will have King being interviewed by a MetroWest Daily News reporter about current events and issues in town. The interview is unscripted and King is unaware of what topics will be discussed. The second segment will include King interviewing a guest and the third segment will feature King answering letters or questions from residents. The show is funded through the town's cable budget. Cable companies provide grants totaling about $200,000 which the town uses to run its own television studio and purchase equipment. This allows the town to record and broadcast live local government meetings and other events. "It's important to me to communicate with the public," King said before a taping session. "I've been wanting to do this for a couple years." When asked if he thought it was unusual for a town boss to host a cable show he said, "If it is, I'd like to think we're cutting edge." This is not the first time King, a former town clerk, has hosted a cable show. In 1996 he was part of a five-person panel on a cable show called "The Framingham Five." When the panel was reduced to four, the show was renamed "The Framingham Forum." The panel included former Town Meeting member and former Downtown Manager Beth Bannon. -- -Time flies like the wind.
