Just a short note to let you know that the region's mosquito control is
finally scheduled to come to our area tonight. Areas South of Waverly
Street and those off Edgell Road, McAdams Road, Raleigh Road, Frost St,
Brook Street, Temple Road, and Parmenter Road as well as Westgate Rd, Old
Wood Rd, Old Worcester Road, etc. They told me today that they are
finishing up spraying a section in Sudbury and then will move on to the
areas needed in Framingham. If for some reason they cannot complete the
work by 11 pm tonight, it should be done tomorrow evening. Work begins at
dusk and proceeds until 11 pm. The pesticide is not potent enough to harm
humans or pets but the agency recommends that residents remain inside and
close windows facing the street if they see the trucks spraying the
pesticide. We are so happy this problem is being addressed.

Please pass the word around to your neighbors. Thank you!

On another front, I've been in touch on a regular basis with the Pike and
meeting with their engineers. Our Sound Barrier finally went out to bid
yesterday (specs in hand)! Great News after all these many years of work
and pushing from us! We had hoped the barrier would be on closer to our
homes and blocking the sounds of the trains as well, but this is a step in
the right direction. Hopefully the Pike Sound Barrier will be built before
Christmas, weather permitting. (I'm told Dec. 12th target date.) They plan
to remove the guard rail. They will then rebuild it again outside the
barrier, closer to the traffic and extend it the across our whole area of
the barrier. The barrier will extend away from the wetlands as required by
law, before the homes start on the reservoir side of Westgate and extend
under Temple Street bridge and over by the Temple Street
Playground. They have also agreed (last week) to use timbers that are not
containing any harmful materials. The timbers will be pressure treated for
strength and durability but these have environmental/health issues taken
into consideration as well. It's finally a reality and won't be stopped
now. Thank goodness!

Feel free to give me a call or send me an email if you have any questions,
or comments. Take care and hope you're enjoying your summer.

Sincerely,
Kathie McCarthy
