I have been waiting for someone to react to the article on Ginger Esty
in the TAB. I hope I am not the only one who had a reaction. I expect verbal
bricks to be thrown my way but feel I must speak up anyway.
I was appalled at the nastiness of Mr. McCormack and Mr. Desilets as
they tried to present their case. The words 'rabblerouser' and 'demogogue' were
infammatory and unseemly. Especially so because Mr.Desilets is an employee of
SMOC and responisble to that organization in what he says and does. The article
misses the point of Mrs. Esty's responsibility to the people of Framingham.
If it is true that the other Selectmen are distancing themselves from her on
the discussed issue then maybe it is time that they paid attention to what she
is saying.
If Framingham only had 10 sex offenders it would be noticeable, If we
had twenty it would be enough, 30, 40.... but we have 61( according to the
article). Would Mr. Desilet and Mr. McCormack want this to be kept secret from the
people in the community.It seems like they do. I am glad Mrs. Esty brought the
situation to the public.
Mrs. Esty also led the fight on the wet shelter. Until she spoke up the
residents abutting the shelter had to put up with an intolerable situation.
After things were brought to the fore SMOC made changes to their program.The
situation has improved for all. It should be noted that 80% of the people using
the wet shelter are from other communities. Only 20% are from Framingham.
Again, I am glad that Mrs. Esty spoke up.
The article also pointed out that Framingham has many social services in
place to help whoever lives here.We do,and I am proud of our town. We support
our people and our schools with funding and overrides. Many towns don't. We
pay for the social services in our taxes. SMOC is a valuable part of our
community and helps many people. But they use the services in place and do not pay
taxes for those services. ( The CEO, Mr. T. Cuddy doesn't even live here.) They
should be mindful of this as they continue to do their good works.
