The bad news is that Governor Romney is closing enrollment on August 31! Application must be RECEIVED on or before August 31. I have asked that the enrollment period be extended through September -- but that may not happen. I encourage you to forward this information broadly --- so that all elders and people with disabilities can get the information they need on this very important program. Below is basic information. Debby Blumer Open Enrollment for Prescription Advantage Open Enrollment of new members to be held in August The Executive Office of Elder Affairs will resume enrolling new members in its drug insurance plan for senior citizens and low-income individuals with disabilities in August. An open enrollment period for the Prescription Advantage program will be held from Aug. 1-31 for non-Medicaid recipients who are age 66 or older. Enrollment for people who are 65 or are under 65 with disabilities and meet income criteria will also be reopened beginning Aug. 1. A number of cost share changes will be implemented Oct. 1. Members in all premium categories will see a reduction in their annual out-of-pocket spending limit. The lowest income members will have lower co-payments and no quarterly deductible. There will be no change in the premiums or deductibles for premium-paying members. For members who reach their annual out-of-pocket spending limit, Prescription Advantage pays the full cost of their covered prescription drugs through the end of the plan year. The new rates will be effective Oct. 1. Spending for the program through next June is capped at $96.3 million. As a result, the plan may be required to impose cost containment measures, including changes to enrollment and adjustments to cost-share provisions.
