My experience with trying to read PDF documents into Word has always been way
less than optimal.

Lots of incorrect look and feel issues, footnote problems, font sizes, etc.,
etc., etc., creep in, and the document becomes tough to further edit in Word
afterward.

I usually end up biting the bullet and converting manually - just bring all the
text in, and apply paragraphs that I create in a Word template as needed.

All character/word emphasis (italics, bolding, etc.) takes a major hit and I
spend time fixing those too ... argh! :(

Of course, a 700+ page document will take time and effort! I have to admit that
I have never tried to do this for such a large document.

Could you save as PDF and then save that as Word?

Alternately, you could sub-contract the job to me 😊

Subject: [Framers] Converting a frame maker document to a word document

Hello all,
I have an absolutely massive frame maker document (700+ pages including a
bibliography) that is laden with cross references and graphics. It’s a heavily
detailed scientific guide that I’m also single sourcing to produce another
guide from. I’ve gone round and round with my client on this, but they’ve
decided that they want everything in Word now, despite all my articulate
arguments about why Word is not the source tool you want to use for something
like this. That said, that means I have to convert this beast to a word
document. I know I’m probably up the proverbial creek without a paddle, but is
there any even remotely possible way to do this short of copying and pasting
everything in and manually reformatting ? I have tons across references. I have
numbered figures that need to remain numbered sequentially. I have a
bibliography that uses super scripts for cross references, etc. It’s just a
nightmare and I don’t even want to think about starting this but I don’t have a
choice.

Any and all advice short of drinking heavily and running away is appreciated

Thank you so much,
Tam
