My view may be over-simplistic, but if she's mostly using this to
transfer files and not for applications, I'd have her buy a cheap PC,
like in the $4-500 range, set up a hard drive as a shared resource and
go to lunch... There are a number of simple utilities that let either
type of computer read drives formatted by the other and they're much
simpler technology than the emulators.

Given the price of hardware, emulators and such are problematic and
aren't really cost-effective, IMHO.

I suggested that if I got something like this on a PC that I'd put in a boot 
disk suspecting a bad boot sector on the hard drive. She said she could try 
putting in the installattion CD, but I'm guessing that won't do the trick.
