What I'm trying to do is search specifically for opening smart quotes, so I

marks I want to search for (opening or closing)?

According to the Help topic "Typing in Dialog Boxes", a backslash followed by a grave accent will find double left quotes, ie, opening smart quotes. Is that how you're searching?
