Hi, Linda: Shrinking to fit is usually more difficult than expanding to fit. While it's easy to tweak away with paragraph-, character-, and word-spacing properties to squeeze things in, it's also easy to create magnificently-ugliness.
You can get some good advice from folks on typography forums about how to do the first without doing the second at the same time. If it's possible to work with the authors, editing the writing is one useful component in fitting stuff into available space.
