Update to conditional text (and thanks for everybody's input)
Despite track changes not being on, clicking Accept All Changes, does get rid of the mark-ups. However, it also got rid of all of the conditional text. The problem clearly had to do with track changes in some way, but surely track changes doesn't spontaneously turn itself on... and then apply to only part of a document? It's baffling. (To me, at least). Anyway, thanks for everyone's help. I will handle conditional text with greater care in the future.
