You can, however, save from 8 to the 7 file format.
I've been editing 7 files in 8 and back-saving them without incident
for more than a year.

And unless you need to work with other people using 7 at the same time
you're working, you can probably just save into the 7 format at the
end of your project. Also, you should be able to write or buy a
FrameScript that would run in 8 and save all components of a book in
the 7 format.
