1.         OVERALL PURPOSE OF JOB

*           Preparation of technical documents for safety products and
systems, as part of a Research & Development team in a World-leading
multinational organisation

 

2.         MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

*           Create and update documentation: 

*           Research, write, edit and proof-read complex new product
manuals and other technical documents

*           Creation & maintenance of HTML Help documentation for
software systems

*           Obtain information for inclusion in documents by various
means including

*           Functional Specifications and other source documents

*           Interviews with hardware and/or software engineers and other
internal sources

*           Hands-on testing of products and systems

*           Follow and help to establish department guidelines for
revising documents and submitting documents for review

*           Assist in the planning of documentation activities by
providing estimates of work, preparing documentation plans, and
contributing to project schedules

*           Work with editorial and publications staff to prepare
documents for printing

*           Preparation of Information Bulletins and Leaflets

*           Liaise with external translation bureaus to create
documentation in other 

*           Liaise with other Technical Authors from other countries to
maintain a common platform and writing style

*           Review documentation prepared by other department members to
ensure editorial and/or technical quality

*           Comply with Company standards & procedures

 

Reports to:       Design Services Manager

 

3.         PERSONNEL SPECIFICATION

Knowledge & Experience

*           Writing and managing technical documentation for electrical,
mechanical and software  products

*           Fluent English, additional English writing skills 

*           Experience in electronic documentation and terminology (e.g.
installation manuals)

*           Proficiency in FrameMaker

*           Proficiency in graphics applications (e.g. Adobe
Illustrator, Corel Designer, CorelDraw, Adobe Photoshop

*           Translation management 

*           2nd language (German, French, Spanish) would be an advantage

*           A minimum of 3 years in Research & Development

 

Training & Qualifications

*           University Degree in Technical Communications or Writing

*           Degrees in other technical subjects will be considered
providing other technical writing courses have been attained

 

Disposition

*           Interpersonal skills to operate in a small team and with
other teams

*           Good communicator, both verbally and in writing

*           Highly motivated

*           Adaptable and willing to learn new techniques

*           Quick to learn

 

4.         WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

*           Sitting for prolonged periods of time in offices and
meetings.

*           Use of computer keyboard and attention to PC monitor often
for prolonged periods.
