I seem to recall that an early version of FM9 had the Updates menu item
greyed out unless I first opened a document. If opening a document doesn't
help, try loading another Adobe product, such as Acrobat or Creative Suite,
and using Updates from there. Recent Adobe updaters look for updates to all
Adobe programs.

The updates are sequential, not cumulative. So you must install 9.0.1,
9.0.2, and 9.0.3. all in order to be fully patched.
You might get more help on the PDF problem if you tell us whether you are
talking about a full Acrobat version or the stripped-down PDF creator that
comes with FrameMaker.
