Cynthia,

I must agree with David and Matt. I use FrameMaker to create our process and user manuals for our company. We distribute the media (PDF files) to our users through SharePoint sites. Basically, SharePoint is turnkey operation for making restrictive websites. It allows some form of content version control, and sharing of documents through reference. It also has templates for various types of sites, from collaboration to document libraries. It supports calendars, forms, and other little things.

It's a shovel trying to masquerade as an elegant dinner setting.

What it isn't is a content development tool. You can't write, edit or do anything other than store and present created documents from other tools, like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, FrameMaker, InDesign or even Notepad.

Whomever is selling you this, is either not very conversant with what the application (SharePoint), or is very dishonest.

You get to name the beast. I would advise you to challenge this person to demonstrate how you will be creating content on SharePoint. And then you may need a large stick to beat them with.

cynthia,
Excuse me if i sound ignorant, I didn't realize there was a Sharepoint
to convert to. Sharepoint is, according to the Sharepoint 2010
Walkthrough Guide: "SharePoint 2010 is the business collaboration
platform of choice for the enterprise and the Internet."

It isn't a page layout or document processing tool, like FrameMaker,
Word, and others.

Converting FrameMaker to Sharepoint tell me they want all the
documentation in Microsoft Word. Word works well with Sharepoint. Large
documents, especially as you add tables and illustrations, typical for
Manuals or User Guides, doesn't work well in Word.

Your decision makes need to compare apples and apples, not apples and
car engines. More information is available at

Guide. Read the Introduction.

    Good morning all-
What a great group. I can’t begin to tell you how helpful this group
has been for me in the past. Unfortunately, I’ve lost the Framemaker
debate and my company has elected to convert manual content to
    Sharepoint.
Can anyone provide information how to effectively convert framemaker
content to Sharepoint so I don’t have to cut and paste?
