Are you actually clicking the Autonumber Format box _twice_ to turn it
off? Click it once and it changes to a solid blue box, which is "As Is"
(which won't change autonumbering on existing paragraphs). You have to
click the box a second time to fully clear it and turn off autonumbering
for the paragraph format. Then click Update All.
