Hi, all.

Well, life turned out to be simpler than I'd feared.

(Syed, I didn't get the result you describe. As you stated, Alt-097 produces a lowercase a (in Arial, anyway). When I switch it to Symbol, I got a small uppercase A in what looks like a serif font.)

However, I copied and pasted my source text from a Word file into NotePad. The symbol came through. I then copied and pasted it into FrameMaker. The symbol came through again!

So I'm all set for now. Gawd, if I never had to struggle with another font issue, I would die happy.

 Thanks, everyone. Happy Friday!

Alt-097 is simply the character lower-case ‘a’. Enter it, highlight it and then set it to the symbol font (using the character designer preferably!) and it will show you what you want.

Subject: Can't enter alpha character in text

Hi, all. I use FM 10 on a Windows 7 system.

I am wasting way, way too much time trying to accomplish a simple thing: I am trying to insert a lower case alpha (looks like a fish, or a lower-case a) into text.

The key code Numlock-alt-097, provided in the FrameMaker 9 special character set does not work (it comes out as an "x"). I have gone cross-eyed trying to find the character in the Character Palette, which does not seem to provide a way to search for the character.

If anyone can solve this annoyance for me, I will be very grateful.
