Garima,
when I do File > Save as PDF in FrameMaker11, I first get a dialog to choose
file name and destination, then I get a "PDF Setup for Selected File" dialog.
The first tab of this is labelled "Settings" and has a panel on it with just
two radio buttons, only labelled "RGB" and "CMYK", no explanation.
Is this what you mean by "Uncheck the option for 'Convert CMYK colors to RGB'" ?

Regards,

David

Hi Richard,

To retain CMYK colors in PDF, you can do the following:

1. Modify a job option to change color setting to 'leave color
unchanged'. Steps are:

Select: File->print setup. The printer selected should be 'Adobe PDF'.

Click on properties. click 'Edit' for any job option(which is to be used to
generate PDF) in Default settings. Go to 'color' tab. In 'color management
policies' change option to "Leave color unchanged.

2. Do 'Save as PDF':

In PDF job options, select the job option created in step1

Uncheck the option for 'Convert CMYK colors to RGB'

Would suggest you to use the above settings for getting CMYK colors in PDF.
In case you are just interested in retaining CMYK colors for 'TIF' images, then
you can use the flag 'ConvertGraphicsToEPS'.
Open maker.ini file present in $FmHome directory. Mark "ConvertGraphicsToEPS"
as On. Restart Framemaker. Now, even if "Convert CMYK colors to RGB" option is
checked in PDF set dialog, graphics(jpeg, psd, tiff) will retain CMYK colors.

Hope this helps.
Regards,
Garima

Kapil,

As a FrameMaker-10 (structured) and Acrobat-Pro-10 of the TCS-package user,
compiling 3k catalog pages/yr having approx. 3.25 CMYK-defined images per page
and
about 20 CMYK-defined in FrameMaker colors (as a company-standards for
part-numbers/section bleed-tabs/etc.) . . .

Images are provided as PDF-(for full-page) and TIF (for single-column) all
having colors defined in CMYK.

Please define exactly WHAT options are required to guarantee rendering the
exact CMYK of the "input" and
HOW/WHERE in FrameMaker and/or Acrobat-Pro to set them.

at your decision . . . reference to product "help" or "how-to" data at Adobe
web-site is appreciated.

In earlier Frame/Acrobat versions, I had script-converted all TIFs to EPS via
Photoshop, to prevent Windows of its RGB perversion.

Thanks for your valued response.

If you include the graphic as an EPS file, it gets passed around the Windows
GDI. So Windows won't RGBify it and will leave CMYK and Pantone intact.

(Mind you, if I specify it as a CMYK, it's almost certainly going to RGB-ify
