I think your suspicion about the "secure" folder you're working in is the culprit - that sounds like an underlying server o/s using a slavish 8.3 file naming convention. I'd experiment with a sample book in a local folder to compare.

I'm running FM10 (10.0.2.419). I'm trying to add the TOC to an existing book. I'm also getting strange results when I "Save as": the filename gets truncated, that is, both the name before the period and the name after. For example, "file_x.book" might be saved as "file.boo" (that's right, without the final "k"). Very strange. I've tried to save the book file as a mif file but I get the same results. However, within the directory, I can rename *.boo to *.book and thus restore it as a book file. As I said, bizarre. I wonder whether it has anything to do with the privileges or security in the directory from which I'm opening (and saving) the files (it's a special "secure" directory, supposedly). Anyway, I've been working with FM for quite a few years and have never encountered anything like this. Thanks again! Having the book create a ToC shouldn't cause it to crash. What version of FM are you running? From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of [email protected] Sent: April-22-14 10:56 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Adding a TOC to a book causes FM to crash Greetings, I have two questions: In a specific directory, adding a TOC file to an existing book always causes FM to crash so that the book cannot be updated with the TOC file. (Note: Adding non-TOC files to the book works fine.) Does anyone have any experience with this "phenomenon"? Also, I am looking for a decent compare function to compare Acrobat (PDF) files. The one currently bundled in Acrobat is, in my view, atrocious, especially when compared with much earlier versions, e.g., 7---either that or I haven't figured out how to use it properly. If you can recommend a decent compare application (or can point out how to improve or configure the bundled compare function), I'd be very grateful. Thanks much, Barry Meislin Nuvoton Technology =========================================================================================== The privileged confidential information contained in this email is intended for use only by the addressees as indicated by the original sender of this email.
