We're in the process of testing some new software here, and I just 
published internally a little time-saving tip for our testers.  I think 
I've posted it here before, too, but thought it might be time to repeat it:

If you receive an error message when you are testing Windows-based 
software, try pressing CTRL + C before dismissing the message.  This 
command may succeed in copying the message content to the clipboard, so 
that you can paste it into your feedback to the development team.  (You 
can do a quick test by pasting into Notepad; the method does work in 
Windows XP.)
