Hi Lynn,

I am replying to you directly so I can include a screenshot from TimeSavers
(http://www.microtype.com). If you look at the yellow area of the screen
shot, it looks like you can control the appearance of your links with
TimeSavers. Once you have the settings you want, everything is transparent,
because TimeSavers is a Distiller add-on that works automatically as the
PDFs are created through Distiller. I have used TimeSavers for many years
and found it very useful.

If you want to post-process PDF files in batches and change all of the links
at once, you may want to check out AutoBookmark by Evermap
(http://www.evermap.com). I bought it for another purpose, but it has lots
of ways to manipulate bookmarks, etc., in existing PDFs. Attached is a
screenshot that will give you an idea of how you can change the appearance
of links.

Please let me know if you have any questions or comments. Thank you very
much.

Rick

Yes, my final delivery format is PDF. If there are any tricks in Acrobat or
in the conversion process for putting a blue box around a cross reference,
that'd work.

Thanks,

Hi Lynn,

FrameMaker 10 allows you to put a background color behind text. All versions
allow you to apply an overline and underline to text (or a cross-reference).
There is no way to do a box with stock FrameMaker. If your deliverable is
PDF, you could convert the cross-reference links to box-style links in
Acrobat, although I am not sure it can be done globally. TimeSavers (
<http://www.microtype.com/> www.microtype.com) may provide a way to do this
automatically when the PDF is created.

This could be done with FrameScript, so if you are interested in this
approach, please contact me offlist. Thanks.

Is there a way to create a cross-reference (or character) format that puts a
colored box around the cross-reference?

Thanks,
