For those who use unstructured:
Other enhancements in FM11 of probable interest to you (not heavily covered in
review) include:
== Interactive multimedia links generated from 3D graphics (e.g. a hyperlinked
table of parts, animations, or views). In PDF output (and some other formats)
you can provide your users with a simple table adjacent to a diagram that will
shift display of image to wireframe and shade only the selected part.
== Vastly improved preferences dialog
== ability to reconfigure workspaces (e.g. add or hide menus) w/o having to
reboot FrameMaker
== ability to modify maker.ini with new preference to save FrameMaker files
with "placed" (non-referenced) graphics w/o those fattening facets. This
feature will substantially reduce file size for anyone who is using embedded
graphics (e.g. files converted from MS Word)
== Ability to display and customize appearance of LINE NUMBERS (great for
proofing/review.) The line numbers work in multiple columns, etc. Try them out
in the old sample "ecology" book.
== "Hot spots" -- hyperlinks from vector graphic shapes to hyperlink marker in
relevant text, or visa versa. Example: you can select an ungrouped vector
graphic of California from the USA clipart that ships with FrameMaker, and link
it to an appropriate hot spot. Roll-over tool text can be entered. In PDF
output (and most HELP/ePub output formats from RoboHelp), the state of
California becomes a hyperlink to the associated text
== NOTE: Hot spots display in an optional "pod" at bottom of screen for
easier management and correction
== The number of Header/Footer markers for variables on master pages (e.g.
<$marker1>) has been doubled. Example: you could now have a catalog that picks
up first/last instance of up to 8 part numbers based on these markers, rather
than displaying an entire paragraph in the page H/F
== smarter FIND/CHANGE behavior. Focal point stays in FIND/CHANGE dialog, and
it remembers your last 5 FIND/CHANGE(s)
== NOTE: FIND/CHANGE not only finds Table format overrides, but will
also locate overrides to Object styles (e.g. a square or oval that no longer
matches the catalog definition an Object style)
== Better out-of-the box connectivity to CMS
== IF YOU GO ALL THE WAY... WITH TECH COMM SUITE 4: you have the ability to do
"touchless" publishing (via RoboHelp) to HTML5 multiscreen. This means that
your unstructured FrameMaker single-source files can output to Android tablets,
iPhones, iPads, desktop HTML, ePUB3, both Kindle formats ... 17 formats in all.
Even if you stay in unstructured mode, via Tech Comm Suite 4, your content is
"future proof" for upcoming tablets and smart phones.

USING A TEMP DITA FILE TO CONVERT EMBEDDED WORD GRAPHICS TO EXTERNALLY
REFERENCED
FYI -- even if you don't use/need structure, you may find a use for "smart
paste" into DITA. Here's the trick:
(a) create new DITA topic. In structure window, insert cursor under <p>
paragraph element
(b) copy MS Word content, including a graphic
(c) right mouse click over structure view window and "smart paste" ... the Word
content is successfully converted into correct DITA
(d) the embedded graphic from Word is converted into a medium resolution
EXTERNALLY REFERENCED jpeg graphic in an adjacent [smart paste] folder.
(e) you can use this technique to swiftly convert some embedded graphics in
Word into higher rez graphics than you used to get from doing a File->Save
As->HTML ...
(f) when finished ... don't save the DITA file. Just rename and relocate the
new external graphic.
... there is more, forthcoming in blogs. Check out the blogs in my signature
below.

So for non-structured users I see object styles and putatively improved
keyboard shortcuts.
