Penelope, thanks for the further refinement. For me, closing and reopening Windows Explorer has had no effect. Neither have restarting or shutting down and starting up the workstation, so OMHV. I seem to have no influence (let alone control) in the matter. I first try F5, which rarely works. Oftentimes, closing down the Explorer window and reopening it will force a refresh, and if not that, then a reboot is worth a try. I have occasionally gone to a command prompt window to make sure I really put the file where I think I did. In my experience, the command prompt always displays files correctly, confirming that this is an Explorer bug. It has (happily) been a long time since I've encountered it. I've often saved files to a network location, and then have to press F5 (refresh) to get them to appear in Windows Explorer. If I save files to my C: drive, however, I do not experience this. Other co-workers report the same behavior. This was both when I was on WinXP (32-bit), and now (for only a few weeks so far) on Win7 (64-bit)...hence why I think it's the network and not the operating system. You forgot to mention whether you have a 64-bit computer. I think the problem by me was when I transferred a file using a 32-bit program. Windows Explorer, which I assume is 64-bit on a 64-bit OS, didn't always display the file. I haven't noticed in a while, so maybe a Windows update took care of it.
