Now I also notice that the same can be accomplished by clicking the UI Visibility button, which resides right next to the Help menu header. Clicking that button hides all open pods -- it also hides all toolbars, but that's OK with me. One click is nice. But it would also be nice to have a keyboard shortcut for the UI Visibility button.

As a workaround, I have a Workspace I call "Clean", which I saved after closing all the pods. As I work and open various pods, the UI becomes cluttered with them; but a mouse-click on "Reset Workspace" cleans it all up again.
