Played with this on an old version of SP, and it worked, but didn't work well. The problems, ASFAIK were all on the SP side and were related to tangled corporate IT permissions -- they didn't quite know how to set it up so mere tech writers could use it.
If you're using a SP 2010 or newer and say FM 11, you'd have the best chance of making it work well. And if you have Thor level permissions, that'll increase the chances.
