Hello Julie, If I understand your need correctly, here is my suggested solution. It's based on FrameMaker 11, but I think it will work in FrameMaker 12:
1. Bring up Find/Change and choose Conditional Text, then select Conditional Text Tag C. 2. Click Find to select the text with Tag C. 3. Click the title bar to reactivate the file. 4. Press Ctrl + 4 and choose Tag B and apply it to the text. After you apply Tag B, the text will still be selected. 5. Now press Ctrl + 5 and choose Tag C to remove it. 6. Press Ctrl + Shift + F to find the next occurrence of Tag C. 7. Repeat Steps 4 through 6 for all content in the file until you have applied Tag B and eliminated Tag C for all occurrences in the file. 8. After you are finished, display your list of Conditional Text tags, choose Tag C, and trash it. Hope this helps. If there are enough tags it might be worth your time or budget to either do the scripting yourself or get an experienced scripter to do it for you. I am too busy but you can ask Rick Quatro. He knows his way around the FM scripting jungle. I am guessing he might respond pretty quickly to this message. I have 3 different conditional text tags in one of my files. One of these conditional text tags was created and applied inadvertently and should really be applied as one of the other 2 conditional text tags. For Example this file contains Conditional Text A, Conditional Text B, and Conditional Text C. The information tagged as Conditional Text C should really be applied and only tagged as Conditional Text B so that I can delete the Conditional Text tag, Conditional Text C. Is there an easy way to do this? I tried to Edit the conditional text tag but that didn't work. It's just the way Windows works. The ability to find text strings in the content of a file depends on Windows knowing how to decode the file (if it's a binary type) and parse the contents. Windows knows how to parse most common non-proprietary file formats, like TXT, RTF, HTML, PDF, and so on. And it knows how to parse the file formats used by Microsoft applications, like DOC, DOCX, XLS, VSD, PST. But there's no return on investment for Microsoft spending the effort to program Windows to parse non-Microsoft application file formats like those used by FrameMaker. Simply adding the filename extensions to the list of file types to be indexed does not teach Windows how to decode and parse the files. It's possible that Windows would figure out how to parse a MIF file, since it is text based rather than binary, but I would never expect Windows to be able to do full-text indexing on a .fm binary file. -Fred Ridder ________________________________________ From: Framers <framers-bounces+docudoc=hotmail....@lists.frameusers.com> on behalf of Austin Meredith <kou...@kouroo.info> Sent: Saturday, May 7, 2016 9:28 AM To: framers@lists.frameusers.com Subject: [Framers] Searching for content in FrameMaker files I don't seem to be able to persuade the File Explorer of Windows 10 to find Boolean content inside FrameMaker2015 files. If you look at an .fm file in a text editor, you can see that the text is not compressed or encrypted. There are all kinds of control characters mixed in, so if you're searching for a multi-word string a search utility might miss it. If Windows search can't find the string Thoreau inside an .fm file, that's because it's a poor excuse for a search utility.
