With Tech Suite 4 (at least on my machine), the Adobe Application Manager manages all the updates, allowing you to choose which applications to update or not (and taking care of how the sequence is done). You can trigger it by choosing Help > Updates.... from the menu system of a running version of FrameMaker. I believe my Tech Suite 5 uses the same method. I will check on another machine later. It's my recollection that Creative Suite does things the same way.
