Yes .. if Save As XML does what you need, by all means, use that since it'll be easier. But if your processing requires more document data in XML, you'll either need to set up a conversion and structure app, or use MIF->MIFML.

MIF is more complete than the save as XML of unstructured documents. For

appear in the MIF file.

XSLT wouldn't be trivial but it's doable by mere mortals.

Scott (or anyone): What would be the reason to go this route instead of a
straight save to FM XML?

My original reason for posting was to get cleaner RTF/Word than FM is putting
out, but this feels like overkill...

This (free) command line utility converts from MIF to MIFML (and back
if you want). I haven't touched it in years but from what I've been
told by others it still works fine.

You just have to write some XSLT to transform from the MIFML into
something useful.

I think Scott Prentice was developing a MIF to XML converter. To me,
that would give the most options for conversions to some of the other formats.
Scott, is your converter still available? Thanks.

It did not work with FM 2015, and I was working on going the MIF2Go
source to see if I could update it.

Unfortunately, my temporary license for FM 2015 expired before I made
any real progress, so the project stalled.

Now that FM 2017 is out, I suspect it does not work. Although I have
the MIF2Go sources, I don’t have access to a licensed version of FM
2017, so cannot resurrect this effort.

Separately, however, I have made much progress on a MIF file
reader/analyzer to do a LaTeX convertor for myself – my current
process is manual.

I need a lot more MIF material to test my code with though - all my
test files are from FM 12. So, I may, someday, provide a completely
new MIF2Go equivalent for the community.

In the meantime, sorry for the news, Art!

Works / doesn't work?

Assuming it works, is there anything unique in the setup?

I'm a little concerned that FM '17 can save to different MIF formats
and wasn't sure how M2G would handle that.

TIA,
Art
