Thanks for the answer. A student of mine wanted to be able to do this to use up white space. I don't think it's worthwhile really to insert tables into text boxes since that would disturb the automatic flow of text before and after the table.

If you have standard table configurations that take up the same space on the page, you could probably save a text frame somewhere, copy and paste it in, then insert the table. Or Silicon Prairie has the Autotext plugin which would let you set it up in a document and insert as needed, frame and table at the same time. Why are you trying to do this, btw? Is it because your tables aren't as wide as the page so you want to take advantage of the blank space?
