Hi, Rick!
Thanks for the offer, but I ended up canceling the project. My local
aquarium club, of which I am on the board, has semi-annual fund-raising
auctions, where anyone can buy/sell aquarium-related livestock and
goods. The club takes a cut. I had previously created a seller
registration form for them which, when they fill out the PDF form and
list their for-sale items, auto generates item labels with lot numbers
to put on the for-sale items. It works perfectly, but we were hoping to
add a QR code to these labels to make it easy to scan their info to the
auctioneer's system. It currently requires some manual entry.
Unfortunately, we hit a fatal flaw with QR codes through PDF. While
Acrobat lets me generate QR codes and create what I want, letting me
enter data or alter data in fields, and having them regenerate, it turns
out that Acrobat Reader will NOT let users make changes to QR codes.
What was working beautifully on my end, fails as soon as the users enter
their data via Acrobat Reader. It causes the QR codes to turn into gray
blocks. I wish I had found that out before I did all the work! It's just
lucky that I accidentally discovered an online discussion about it
before I made this form go live. I don't normally test in Reader.
I guess it's why adding barcodes is pretty much the only feature the SP
Form Assistant didn't automate. Anyway, we can't expect our users to buy
the full version of Acrobat, just to be able to use QR codes. So we're
back to the old seller registration form.
If anyone knows of a free PDF program, that would let users fill out a
form and have included QR codes autogenerate to include the modified
data, let me know.
