Teaching at AUC is an opportunity to live near Cairo, which is a very rich and interesting city with many problems and a vast socio-economic gap between rich and poor. But, the campus is in a suburb, far from the actual city, the university is viewed as an outpost of an American democratization project which is not much appreciated by the real artists/intellectuals/activists in the region, and the department which houses this position is problematic. The line is advertised as TT, but you will probably not get tenure unless you are sympatico with the neo-liberal project of the university.
