Dear Frameworkers, I am not used to making personal statements here, but this one touches me too closely. Specifically, the proliferation of screenings on Ukrainian cinema (why not, but why mainly now?) and the veil of demureness about Russian art (why not now?) gives substance - beyond the aforementioned mechanical division of friends and enemies typical of this democratic regime, tending to over categorize - to what has been my thought over the past years and has strongly harmed the festival of whom I am in charge of. I have always refused to obey the common logic of sure funding for events explicitly politicized, so as not to fall into the trap of being patronized by the same Power that provides such funding, compromising therefore our own line as Film encounter. Generally, it seems to me that this bare adhesion doesn't allow the audience to have any literacy (the ability to encode signs on their own). It is rather a sort of mere subservience to that regime (a democratic regime yes) that determines what is right and what is wrong. If you guys agree we need to make it clear, creating a sort of syndicate or something similar that allows us (the avant-garde experimental film community) to overcome the problem, a kind of common ground or micro sustainability. At the moment it seems to me that the only way to survive for us is to run such encounters or festivals under the wings of big festivals or to give money to companies that are the worst such as PayPal, Film freeway and so on. In refusing to alienate ourselves to this regime, striving so much to survive, in the end it is even hard to sustain payments and bills.
I am not sure if our problem is also yours, in case, Let me know what you think !
