Back in March I asked about experimental film activity in Portugal and I
think I thanked everyone who responded to my query. I had a two month
residency at Hangar in Lisbon, and ended up having a four day residency
inside that residency at Sonoscopia in Porto.
One of the three projects I worked on during those months came to fruition
on 21 April as "A Synesthete's Atlas", a 45 minute improvisation with
Helena Espvall on cello and effects. I've written a thousand or so lines of
JavaScript that integrates open source libraries with OpenStreetMap data
and allows me to use a touch surface to manipulate maps in real time.
I'm essentially a map jockey.
But I'm quite consciously working in the traditions of color flicker films
and light shows, with elements of concrete poetry, light & space movement,
op art, and Fauvism mixed in.
If you're curious, five excerpts from the performance are up at:

If you are in Madrid, have access to a space w/projector and maybe an in
with skilled improvising musicians, and would be interested in hosting a
performance like that on 4, 5, or 6 May, please get in touch.
Barcelona, ditto, but for 6, 7, or 8 May.

As for 3 May, that's my birthday, and I'm going to the Alhambra.
And I don't mean the former cinema turned gymnasium on Polk St in San
Francisco.
