SSD failure might be mitigated by only powering them on when one needs to use them as well as periodically. Of course, SSDs can be used in RAID 6 for even greater safety. However, to me, storing only on a physical device located in office/home is worrisome.
I like cloud storage because Google, for example, is not going away without a very long warning. They also have a “after your death" option. :) The choice may also depend on what one is storing. Is one saving original files and/or only one’s productions. Storing source files are a far bigger issue. Saving an edit list potentially allows one to recreate a production should a new release format appear, i.e. MPEGVII. (Of course, that assumes you still have, for example, FCPX 20. Or, in future, one might be editing with the Blackmagic Media Composer. You know, the one that has AI that looks at your sources and decides what the story should be to trick YouTube’s algorithm to feature your “film.”) And, HI to you Jeff.
