Dear Frameworks, This is a friendly reminder that submissions are currently open for the 2024 Mimesis Documentary Festival, including to our new special category, subsidized by our partnership with the nature-based climate solutions initiative Cool Boulder, entitled *Moving Creatures*. For the most up to date information on Mimesis, please follow us @mimesisdocfest on Instagram and other platforms.
We are also thrilled to confirm that Mimesis will return to the Dairy Arts Center <https://thedairy.org/> in Boulder, Colorado, August 15-18, to showcase personal, underrepresented, and culturally specific projects that offer the most profound experiences of art made from life. Discounts are available for University of Colorado Boulder students and alumni, and for previously accepted Mimesis Artists (upon request). Contact [email protected] for more information. As always, 80% of our programming this year will be sourced from open submissions. More information <http://mimesisfestival.org/submit>. Submit to Mimesis <https://filmfreeway.com/MimesisDocFest> *Special Category: Moving Creatures* Mimesis is partnering with Cool Boulder <https://www.coolboulder.org/> to invite documentary artists to submit to our special category, *Moving Creatures*. Submissions to this category are reduced in price by $20, and are automatically entered into juried competition for up to $5,000 in prize money for outstanding features and shorts (pending final programming decisions). The aim of *Moving Creatures* is to explore and question dominant narratives, and find hope and purpose through transformative documentaries that create connection and empowerment. With the increasing frequency of catastrophic floods, wildfires, fatal heat waves, and droughts, people are witnessing the consequences of climate change in their own lives. This leads to feelings of isolation and powerlessness, particularly when the solutions seem so far outside any of our control. Mainstream media paints a dire situation focused on technological fixes controlled by leaders mired in political division, which leads to cynicism and a generation losing hope for their future. A missing piece of the conversation is the significant role that the degradation of living and social systems plays in the climate crisis, as well as the equally impactful and interconnected biodiversity crisis. Protection of nature and restoration of degraded lands, waterways, and oceans is critical for the future of the planet. Local communities, individuals, and indigenous peoples from around the world are taking matters into their own hands to heal the land in cities, farms, and natural areas through connections within their own communities and new partnerships, creating a movement built of collective action. In this special category, artists are invited to explore the journey we’ve traveled and how we can find a new path to reconnect with the living world and with each other.
