I am so sorry to hear this….Tomonari was my teacher’s aid when I taught at the 
San Francisco Art Institute. He was also my guide in Tokyo when I presented two 
screenings of work from Canyon Cinema at Metropolitan Museum of Photography. I 
invite Tomonari to Havana Cuba where I presented some of his films at the Cine 
del Nuevo Latinoamericano International Festival there. It was to be the last 
screening I would do in Havana before the outbreak of Covid before the island 
was isolated.

He is a great filmmaker and his work challenges the viewer in many different 
ways.

This saddens me because the community is about to lose another great artist.
