I am so sorry to hear this….Tomonari was my teacher’s aid when I taught at the San Francisco Art Institute. He was also my guide in Tokyo when I presented two screenings of work from Canyon Cinema at Metropolitan Museum of Photography. I invite Tomonari to Havana Cuba where I presented some of his films at the Cine del Nuevo Latinoamericano International Festival there. It was to be the last screening I would do in Havana before the outbreak of Covid before the island was isolated.
He is a great filmmaker and his work challenges the viewer in many different ways. This saddens me because the community is about to lose another great artist.
