When Louisa and I lived in San Francisco in the mid-70s, we used to drive up to
visit Gunvor in her bungalow in the woods above Sausalito. It was a real-life
fairyland setting where she was raising her pre-teen, Oona. While in SF, Louisa
and I bought from her a clean 16mm print of her gorgeous B/W film of Oona and
her horse/pony riding the wind and fog, Oona chanting endlessly on the
soundtrack, "My Name is Ooooooona, My Name is Ooooooona......" as if in a Steve
Reich or Robert Ashley chant transposed. Gunvor had a metal plaque on her
washing machine engraved with the label, "Guggenheim Memorial Washing Machine."

A short note to let you know that Gunvor Nelson, one of the prominent
filmmakers that emerged from the vibrant 1960s Bay Area, sadly passed away
today in Kristinehamn, Sweden. The town where she originally grew up.
