I'm very sad for the loss of Linda Williams--a wonderful and supportive friend to many in our field--whose obituary is in the NY Times today. One of the most humane, rigorous, original, brave, eclectic and joyful of film scholars, making major contributions in redefining melodrama, facing and understanding sex and sexuality, as well as race and racism in film.
