WATERSCAPE: illusions, original format 16mm film, 52 minutes, an experimental
documentary set on a mysterious wilderness lake, seemingly only about filming
swans and swan mythology, is a meditation on illusion and reality and
filmmaking as myth-making. It will be preceded by WATERCOLORS, original format
16mm film, silent, 13 minutes, shot on the same location, which zeroes in on
the reflections on the surface of the water, engaging light, color, texture and
rhythm, revealing and distorting images of the surrounding location. My later
digital films, RAIN PAINTING, 6 minutes, and WATER FALLS, New York City, 12
minutes, will follow. They continue my explorations of images transformed by
water and complete an unplanned trilogy.

RAIN PAINTING shows rain striking car windows and “painting” the landscape
beyond, in a variety of moods and colors, establishing three realities: the
landscape viewed through the window, rain patterns on the window surface, and
the space inside the car. WATER FALLS, New York City shows water falling,
flying, and flowing from New York City fountains that echoes the energy of the
City. Circling back, again and again, to one West Village fountain, the camera
catches glimpses of neighborhood life through the prism of the water — a
painterly city symphony, augmented by sounds of people, traffic, and the
constantly falling water.

Program running time: 83 minutes + discussion and Q & A.
