Upcoming Screenings *In Another Light: Cinema of Memory <https://www.allarvickfund.org/events>* is the *Al Larvick Conservation Fund’s <https://www.allarvickfund.org>* 10th anniversary screening series, marking a decade of work dedicated to preserving and sharing American home movies, amateur cinema, and community recordings originally captured on analog and obsolete formats. Drawing from the Fund’s national grant program, the series presents these films as vital cultural documents—revealing how personal filmmaking records creativity, social life, and lived experience. *Paradise Factory — New York, NY* *January 30 | 7:30 PM* *Program:* *Artistic Impulses* *Artistic Impulses* traces a lineage of grassroots filmmaking, highlighting home-movie makers who approached personal media as a site for invention, expression, and public address. Working with small-gauge film and early video formats, these makers navigated the intersections of politics, culture, influence, and personal vision—often blurring the boundaries between documentation, storytelling, and performance. The program also foregrounds performance as a central element of home-movie practice. In many of these works, the presence of the camera actively shapes behavior, framing moments that are staged, improvised, or heightened by awareness of being recorded. Here, filming becomes both an act of observation and participation—revealing how meaning is produced through the interaction between camera, subject, and environment. Curated by *Kirsten Larvick* and *Kelly Burton* Edited by *Kimberly Brown* *Original score performed live by Gene Pritsker (composer/musician) and Franz Hackl (trumpeter)* *Trailer here <https://vimeo.com/1129763025?fl=pl&fe=sh>.* *Tickets:* *https://ci.ovationtix.com/36933/production/1262143?performanceId=11742190* <https://alavcf.us11.list-manage.com/track/click?u=1031b90af3006d61353890f79&id=5bcfdcd22c&e=7cc108e526> *Music Box Theatre — Chicago, IL* *February 1 | 6:30 PM | Presented in partnership with Chicago Film Archives and Media Burn Archive* *Program 1:* *Not-So-Ordinary* *Not-So-Ordinary* — curated and presented by cultural historian and ALCF grant recipient *Agata Zborowska* — explores the immigrant gaze through home movies and amateur films from Polish American families in Chicago, often referred to as “American Warsaw.” The program traces evolving ways of seeing across generations, moving from dislocation and curiosity to familiarity and belonging. Featuring films such as *Chicago 72* by Jerzy “George” Skwarek, alongside selected family collections, *Not-So-Ordinary* offers an intimate portrait of cultural memory shaped by migration and everyday life. Curated and presented by *Agata Zborowska*, cultural historian and ALCF grant recipient. *Live musical accompaniment by accordionists Marek Kalinowski and Julian Antos.* *Program 2:* *Artistic Impulses* *Artistic Impulses *— curated by *Kirsten Larvick* and *Kelly Burton*, edited by *Kimberly Brown* — returns in a second presentation with a *pre-recorded original score by Gene Pritsker and Franz Hackl*, continuing its exploration of experimentation, performance, and personal expression in home-movie practice.
