The Perfectone that I know of is a sync motor, that is it's a more or less
accurate speed motor with an AC generator on it that provides a sync tone
to a recorder.

It's not a crystal synch motor; if you use it for sound you will need a
recorder which can accept pilot tone input and some way to resolve the 
tone when you transfer your sound to synchronized media.

Crystal synch was a great revolution when it became available in the
early seventies, because it allowed the camera operator and sound man
to walk around without an umbilical cord connecting them, carrying pilot.
