Get "A Primer for Filmmaking" by Roberts and Sharples. Find someone with a flatbed you can borrow. You don't want to own one, you want to borrow one.
Buy a couple rewinds and a Moviscope. You want to learn how to use an editing bench as well as a flatbed. You don't want to edit on a bench, but it's a handy thing for selecting takes.
