Hello Rini, From the request for a "8mm/ super 8mm projector" I would say you are actually looking for 2 projectors but this may depend on your application...
There were dual format projectors from Eumig, Elmo, Bauer (same build as Eumig), and others, but while the compromises of a dual format may have been acceptable when film elements where unshrunken and close to spec, but even most super-8 is exhibiting significant shrinkage now and we regularly see regular 8mm with over 3% shrinkage. I would suggest a an Elmo ST or GS line for Super-8 and the Bolex M-8 for regular 8mm. If you are set on a dual format, the Eumig/Bauers are pretty good as far as film handling, but I was never very happy with the lenses and I don't think there was any dual format built that could work in a decent sized exhibition. If I remember correctly the Eumig duals were burning 12v/100w halogens which are not very bright... It makes a big difference if we know what the purpose of the projector is. If it is to exhibit Super-8 sound films in a small gallery, you can get away with a commonly available ST-600/180 for a larger hall you may need a GS-1200 Xenon which are as rare as hen's teeth (and twice as expensive)... If it is to inspect and review film elements in a collection - Don't use a projector! Use a hand-cranked Elmo, Goko or Braun editor. If you have older film get a bead on the shrinkage rate by counting how many frames you have in a foot and compare that to spec: Regular 8mm = 80 frames/foot Super-8 = 72 frames/foot If you count more than 81 frames in a foot of R8, you'll be running a good chance of severely damaging the film in most projectors while you should still be fine gently pulling the film through an editor. More info about the application could generate much more useful recommendations... -Buck Bito - Movette Lawrence "Buck" Bito Movette Film Transfer 1407 Valencia St. San Francisco, CA 94110 (Valencia at 25th St.) 415-558-8815 Open Tuesday - Saturday Tue+Thu: 8-6, Wed+Fri: 9-6, Sat: 10-4 www.movettefilm.com On Fri, June 6, 2014 5:28 am, Pip Chodorov wrote: > Forwarding to the list... > > >> >>Hello, >>Can you please post the following message to the listserv? >>Thanks! >> >> >> >>>>> >> >> >>Dear frameworkers, >> >>I am looking to buy a well-functioning 8mm/ super 8mm projector. >>Does anyone have or know of one available for sale?
