Hello everyone: I'm searching for the following footage: Nightlife in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia - more specifically the jazz scene (Ethio-jazz) during the late 60's, 70s and into the 80s.
One name in particular we're looking for is for is musician Mahmoud Ahmed. Also the producer of the Ethiopiques record series, Francis Falceto. more information: Ethiopia’s most noted musical artists: Mahmoud Ahmed, Alemayehu Eshete and the legendary saxophonist Getatchew Mekurya. The artists burst forth into the Ethiopian music scence in the 1960s, during a time of prolific music recording in Addis Ababa, where the nightlife and club scene was buzzing with live Afro-pop, Swing and Blues riviling those in Paris and New York. But the fun was short lived. In the mid 1970′s the rise to power of Lieutenant-Colonel Mengistu Haile-Mariam ushered in a dark age, which halted Addis Ababa’s flourishing music scene and severely curtailed the record music industry. Also this radio documentary tells the whole story, if you're curious: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p01y76x2 FYI: Here's a glimpse of our archive and screening series: http://www.ozy.com/good-sht/an-oddball-trove-of-celluloid-dreams/41299 Best regards, Stephen Parr Director Oddball Films www.oddballfilm.com www.oddballfilms.blogspot.com 275 Capp Street San Francisco, CA 94110 Phone 415.558.8112 Fax 415.558.8116 For a link to our past projects: oddballfilm.com/projects_2013.pdf http://letterboxd.com/oddballfilm/lists/ The Archivists Dilemma http://www.huffingtonpost.com/michael-nirenberg/the-archivists-dilemma-qa_b_6273140.html Follow us on facebook and Twitter! http://www.facebook.com/oddballfilm http://twitter.com/Oddballfilms _______________________________________________ FrameWorks mailing list [email protected] https://mailman-mail5.webfaction.com/listinfo/frameworks
