For those of you in the UK this week, there are a number of events at Flatpack Film Festival in Birmingham that come out of my research project at the University of Warwick (led by Charlotte Brunsdon) /The Projection Project/, which looks at the history of cinema projection, the job of the projectionist, and the use of projection in spaces outside of the cinema (such as the gallery, and the street). Flatpack is a brilliant film festival in any case, with lots of live audio-visual performance and a definite leaning toward exploring analogue moving image work as much as digital. Here's some more information and links:

**University of Warwick's *Projection Project* <https://projectionproject.warwick.ac.uk/> will contribute a number of events at the upcoming Flatpack Film Festival in *Birmingham from 20-24 April at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery’s Gas Hall***

*Richard Nicholson: The Projectionists* // *bit.ly/rnproj* <http://flatpackfestival.org.uk/event/richard-nicholson-the-projectionists/> Photographer Richard Nicholson has been travelling the country, gaining privileged access to a realm where most cinema-goers never venture; the projection box. * From 20-24 April* (see link above for venue details and opening times).

*Secrets of the projection box* // *bit.ly/projbx* <http://flatpackfestival.org.uk/event/secrets-of-the-projection-box/> Hair in the gate. Cigarette burns. The Maltese Cross. Projectionists inhabit a parallel universe with its own lexicon and rituals. The Projection Project is a research project exploring different aspects of this world, and we will share some of what we’ve discovered. *Sunday 24 April, 3.45pm*(see link above for venue details).

There will also be a Virtual Projection Box to explore, and members of the research team will be there to talk about the project (both in the Gas Hall along with the Richard Nicholson exhibition).

*WarPUnit* // bit.ly/1SLUVmU <http://bit.ly/1SLUVmU>
The Warwick Projection Unit will see intrepid Warwick students taking to the streets of Birmingham to do some guerrilla outdoor projection on Saturday 23 April, from 8.30pm.

Flatpack is a “magnificently eclectic”, “joyously inventive” festival taking place in Birmingham with a mixture of films, performances, contraptions and surprises. *http://flatpackfestival.org.uk/***

The above events are free, suitable for all ages and we very much hope you can join us.
